Chapter Six

Braden walked down the hall and smiled at the man sitting on the sofa. “Hi. I’m Braden.”

Han set his phone aside and stood to shake Braden’s hand. “Han Mei. I didn’t know Alex had company.”

“Oh, I’m just staying for a little while. Uh…” Braden glanced back at the bedroom. “He’s been battling some kind of food poisoning. A friend at work last night gave him a bad sub, and he’s been puking his guts out. Right now, he’s passed out on his bed and wanted me to tell you that he’d call you later. Once he’s over this illness.”

His friend nodded. “Yeah, sure. I told him not to eat what Terry offered him. The damn fool is nasty.”

Braden was thankful no questions were asked. Han gathered his stuff and pointed to a folder on the table. “Make sure he reads that when he gets up. And, uh, it’s private.”

“Oh, sure.” Braden smiled. “I’ll give it to him.”

Han left without any fuss, and Braden closed and locked the door behind him. He heard the low sounds of a growl and turned to see Alex standing there, waiting for him to read what was in the folder.

“It’s private.”

Alex snarled, and Braden laughed. He grabbed the folder and opened it. Inside was data on the serum. It was set to expire ten years from the date of the injection. The wolf would then keep the wolf status for ten years. He shook his head, and Alex came toward him, nudging him with his nose.

“You’re not going to like this.” Braden pursed his lips. “The serum expires. You were strictly human for ten years, and now you’re not. Now you’re a wolf, and it was designed to keep you as a wolf for ten years as well.”

Alex growled.

“Yeah, I know. There’s more. Han wrote that there was an antidote created to counteract the serum. Something that makes the genetic codes fall back in line with nature. The lab has them. His friend said that if you needed them for your missing persons cases that he could give you a shooter with several loaded into it. But the army regulates who has it, so he’d have to report it and go through them, which may get back to the mayor.”

Alex shook his head.

“I disagree.” Braden stared at him. “I like seeing you as a wolf again, but I have no intention of kissing your furry face for the next ten years.”

Braden stood and found Alex’s keys on the table. “Looks like I’m going to get that antidote. You weren’t supposed to shift until the full moon. You’re four days early.”

Alex growled, and Braden rolled his eyes. “Get over it. I’m perfectly capable of defending myself.”

Before Braden could finish, a clinking sound filled his ears as pain burst through the back of his shoulder. Silver. He turned and saw the mayor with his goons holding a silver shooter. Silver didn’t kill a wolf, but it sure fucked them up.

Braden cringed, knowing better than to touch it with his other hand.
